Facelift

What is a facelift? A facelift (rhytidectomy) is a surgical procedure aimed at restoring the lost contours of youth in the face and neck. With aging the loss of elasticity of skin results in a tired appearance, sagging jaw line, “turkey gobbler” or “double chin” and jowling. This procedure aims to tighten the deep muscles of the face in a very natural way to restore the youthful contours of the face, neck, and jaw line. As part of a facelift the cheek is also addressed and lifted to a more youthful position. A facelift can be combined with other procedures. We often perform liposuction of the neck at the same time as the facelift in addition to laser skin resurfacing to enhance the overall appearance of the facial skin.

The incisions are hidden adjacent to the ear and in the hairline. This procedure is appropriate for those individuals who have significant signs of aging and redundant skin. For those looking for a more subtle change with a shorter recovery time, a minilift may be a better option. Ask your surgeon which option is better for you. A facelift can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. We routinely perform facelifts in either our Bellevue or Issaquah locations.

How is a mini lift different then a facelift?

A mini lift is a minimally invasive surgical procedure aimed at restoring the lost contours of youth in the face and neck. A mini lift can be combined with other procedures. We often perform liposuction of the neck at the same time in addition to laser skin resurfacing to enhance the overall appearance of the facial skin. A mini lift mainly differs from a facelift in that the incisions are hidden adjacent to the ear and generally do not enter the hairline. This procedure is appropriate for those individuals who have minimal to moderate signs of aging and redundant skin. For those patients who have more significant aging with more excess skin a facelift may be a better option. Ask your surgeon which procedure is better for you. A mini lift can be performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia. Because the incisions and operative time are shorter then a facelift the recovery time is generally less then a facelift.

What is the recovery time? Everyone heals differently but in general the recovery time is around 10-14 days for most of the swelling and bruising to resolve.
