Facial Fillers

Juvederm, Perlane, and Restylane are facial fillers made of hyaluronic acid that have been used in millions of patients. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance within the skin. Hyaluronic acids have an advantage of being very soft and natural feeling. Another advantage of hyaluronic acid facial fillers are that they can be eliminated in the event of an undesirable result within a few hours by a specific enzyme. Injection of hyaluronic acid facial fillers require minimal anesthesia, no worse then going to the dentist. Restylane, Perlane, and Juvederm last a variable amount of time depending on the patient but more importantly where the filler is placed. Hyaluronic acid facial fillers placed in areas of the face that move less (nose, around the eyes, etc.) last longer. Often times periorbital injections of filler can last years. It would be extremely rare to have an allergic reaction to a hyaluronic acid filler.

What is the recovery time? Everyone heals differently but there is minimal swelling with injection and bruising is uncommon. Most people can return to normal activities the same day or next day without any sign of swelling or bruising.
