Liposculpture
(Fat Augmentation)
What is fat augmentation? As we age, not only does the skin tend to lose elasticity and start to sag, but also we begin to lose much of the subcutaneous fat in our face. This results in a hollow or skeletonized look that exacerbates the aging process. Fat augmentation is a procedure that takes fat from the abdomen, buttock, or thighs, and delicately replaces it into the face. Every individual is different in the areas that require volume enhancement. The lips, cheeks, nasolabial folds and other areas can be augmented either as a stand alone procedure or often in conjunction with other procedures to enhance their results. Fat has a variable resorption rate and every patient has a different characteristic to his or her fat, but in general 30-50% remains permanently.
The lips, cheeks, nasolabial folds and other areas can be augmented either as a standalone procedure or often in conjunction with other procedures to enhance their results.
Fat augmentation can easily be performed in the office under local anesthesia with or without sedation. Fat augmentation is an excellent alternative to temporary fillers.
What is the recovery time? The recovery time for fat augmentation depends on the amount and areas treated but in general most swelling and bruising resolves in 7-14 days. Treated areas do look more swollen than with other procedures for longer because overcorrection must be performed to account for the resorption of some of the fat cells.
